At long last, I can put this series of short stories to bed. It's not like I think they're bad or anything, but this stupid story kept pulling at my attention when I was trying to work on other things, and it was frankly getting on my nerves. So, good riddance.

So, I started writing the last story in this set when I realized that there was a significant chunk missing from the story structure. This week's story is that chunk. The actual last part will be next week.
Trust me, nobody's more annoyed by this than I am.

This story is very selfishly refusing to let go of my brain, so I'm afraid I have no choice but to finish it. Fortunately, it should be done after next week. So you won't have to deal with it for that much longer.

Sometimes you just want to make a semi-self-insert character go through so much hardship that it completely redefines their understanding of what 'hardship' means, you know?

I was very busy this week, and also quite tired. As such, I wrote the kind of story that I find easier to write than any other type of story.
